About this site
A diary kept by private individuals in Gqeberha who walk exhibition floors, go to lawn displays on this coast, and write down what they found.

This started as a notebook kept for ourselves. We were going to the halls anyway, we were already annoyed at how little of the useful information survived the drive home, and the notes turned out to be more use to friends than to us. Putting them online was the obvious next step and the format has barely changed since.
The site is run by private individuals. There is no company behind it, no stand sponsorship, no advertising, and no arrangement of any kind with a dealer, an organiser or a club. Readers pay for the work on the rate card and nobody else pays for anything. That is the whole commercial arrangement and it is deliberately dull.
We write for drivers past forty-five because that is who we are and who writes in. The questions are consistent: will this seat still be comfortable at Kenton after three hours, what does the boot really take, where will it be serviced, and what does the first set of tyres cost. Those questions get answered here in numbers.
Gqeberha shapes the content more than we expected. The wind, the salt, the patched tar through Korsten, the long gaps between towns on the N10, the fact that a specialist part can be a week away from the Bay: all of it changes what counts as a comfortable car. A site written in Sandton would reach different conclusions, and we think ours travel better on this coast.
Three habits
-
Measured, not admired
If a figure can be checked with a tape measure or a fuel slip, we check it rather than repeat it. Where we could not check something, the entry says so.
-
Nobody pays for a mention
No stand, club or dealer can buy a line here. The entries are free to say that a display was disappointing, and occasionally they do.
-
Written for sore knees
Everything is organised around four useful hours, a bench to sit on, and a car park at the end of it. Enthusiasm is not a substitute for planning.
What this site is not
- Not a dealership, a broker or an agent. We do not sell cars, we do not take a commission on one, and we have no stock.
- Not a news service. Entries appear after a hall has been walked, which means gaps when nothing is on.
- Not a performance site. If you want lap times or power figures, you will find this diary very boring.
- Not anonymous advice at scale. The rate card work is done by the same people who write the entries, which caps how much of it we take on.

Going to a hall this season
Send us the show and what you are weighing up, and we will tell you plainly whether it is worth your Saturday or whether you should wait for the next one. That answer is free, and it has saved a few readers a long drive.
