Notes
Terms of use
Plain conditions for reading the diary and for commissioning anything on the rate card. Using the site means accepting them. They are written to be read once, not to be impressive.
What the diary is
The entries are opinions formed by walking exhibition floors, sitting in cars and driving roads in the Eastern Cape. They are not an inspection report, not a valuation and not a recommendation to buy or to sell anything.
Conditions in a hall change between shows, stands change their stock, and a display car is not always representative of the car a buyer receives. Read the entries as notes from one visit rather than as a permanent statement about any vehicle type.
Prices and quotations
Every rand figure on this site is indicative. Fuel, tyres, services, hire rates, parking and meals all move, and the figures are there to give a sense of scale rather than to be quoted back at a counter.
Work from the rate card is quoted individually before it starts, including any travel line. A quotation stands for fourteen days and nothing is payable until the scope has been agreed in writing or by a recorded telephone conversation.
Your own decisions remain your own
We do not sell cars, we hold no stock, we take no commission and we have no financial interest in which vehicle a reader chooses. Advice here is a view, offered honestly, and the decision and the money are yours.
Before buying, arrange your own mechanical inspection and your own finance and insurance advice. Before relying on a figure from this site in a negotiation, confirm it with the party who will have to honour it.
Using what is written here
You may read, print and quote short passages for your own use or in a conversation with a dealer, with the source named. Republishing entries in full, scraping the site for a database, or using the text to train a commercial model is not permitted.
Photographs on the site are used with permission for use here only. Ask before reproducing one; the answer is usually yes for a club newsletter and usually no for anything commercial.
Links and other people's events
Where an entry mentions a venue, a club gathering or a hire desk, that is description rather than endorsement. Opening times, access arrangements, entry fees and judging formats are set by other people and change without telling us.
Always confirm the detail with the organiser before driving two hundred kilometres. We have made that mistake and the drive home is long.
Availability of the site
The site is kept running with reasonable care on ordinary commercial hosting. It may be unavailable during maintenance, after a power interruption or when something simply breaks, and no guarantee of uninterrupted access is offered.
Entries may be edited after publication for accuracy. Where a correction changes the sense of what was said, the correction is made openly in the text rather than quietly.
Limits and the law that applies
Nothing here limits liability for anything that may not lawfully be limited. Beyond that, liability for loss arising from reliance on the diary is limited to the amount paid for any work commissioned from the rate card, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
South African law applies, and the courts of this country have jurisdiction. If a dispute does arise, a telephone call to Parliament Street is a cheaper first step than anything involving an attorney, and we will take the call.
